Infrastructure works estimating

Infrastructure jobs are not one trade. They are earthworks, roads, drainage, concrete structures and utility pit and pipe, all on the same site and in the same programme. We price them as one package.

When the earthworks, the roads, the drainage, the structures and the utilities are tendered together, the shared items are where the money hides: the cut and fill balance, the shared trenches, the traffic control and the staging. Priced trade by trade, they get counted two or three times, or missed altogether. We price the whole package once, so each shared item is counted once and in the right place.

How the package is priced

The estimate is built from the drawings, the long sections, the geotechnical report and the specification, with every item priced from first principles and the assumptions written down. Shared items are shown once, with the trades they serve listed beside them, so you can see where a saving or a risk sits.

For tenders that ask for more than a price, the pricing schedule, the methodology and the programme can be done with the estimate. See client pricing schedules and methodology and programme.

Single trades are priced on their own too. Each one has its own page: earthworks, roads and asphalt, stormwater, civil structures and utilities.

Water mains, sewer and pump stations on the same job are priced by our specialist practice, Water Sewer Estimating Sydney, with the same lead estimator.

Common questions

Do you price the whole infrastructure package or single trades?

Either. We price the whole package once, or any trade on its own, from the same drawings.

Why not get each trade priced separately?

Separate prices count the shared items more than once or not at all. One estimate for the package keeps the cut and fill, the trenches and the traffic control consistent.

Do you price the building structures on an infrastructure job?

No. We price the civil structures, such as retaining walls, headwalls, culverts and tanks. We don't price building slabs and cores.
