Every state writes its own road and civil specifications, and councils add their own engineering standards on top. A price carried over from another state can miss the items the local specification asks for. We price to the documents the tender calls up, from the drawings, the specification and the geotechnical report.
The specifications that set the price in Victoria
Victorian road work is specified through the Department of Transport and Planning, which now holds the former VicRoads technical publications. The standard sections are numbered by series: 200 for formation, 300 for flexible pavements, 400 for asphalt and surface treatments, 600 for bridgeworks, 700 for incidental construction and 800 for materials. The standard drawings for roadworks are part of the contract, and the sections are often modified for a particular tender, so we price the tender's own copy.
Local roads and subdivisions also follow the council's own engineering standards. We price to whichever the tender calls up, and check the current edition with the authority before the price goes in.

How we work from Sydney
Our case studies so far are NSW work. The same first-principles method applies in Victoria: every item measured from the drawings, every rate built up, and every assumption written down. Send the drawings, the specification and any geotechnical report, and we agree the fee and the delivery date before we start.
Common questions
Do you price civil work in Melbourne?
Yes. We price from the drawings, remotely, to the specifications that apply in Victoria and the council's own standards. The fee and the delivery date are agreed before we start.
Do you need to visit the site?
Usually not. Most estimates are priced from the drawings, the survey and the geotechnical report. If something on site could change the price, we write it down as an assumption so you can check it.
